Kunal Kamra started his career as a stand-up comedian in 2013 with a show at Canvas Laugh Club, Mumbai. In July 2017, he started his own talk show called “Shut Up Ya Kunal” with Ramit Verma.
Kunal Kamra often covers topics like taxi drivers, single life, and funny TV commercials in his comedy shows. On March 1, 2017, he uploaded a comedy video on YouTube titled “Patriotism and the Government”.
In the video, he ridicules the Indian demonetisation movement, the government, and the blind support some people give to the army. In 2018, Kunal revealed that his landlord had asked him to vacate his apartment because of his political views.
Ramit Verma, who runs the satirical Facebook page PeeingHuman, was the creative director and editor of Kunal’s talk show. The show’s first episode aired on 20 July 2017, featuring Bharatiya Janata Party youth wing vice-president Madhukeshwar Desai as a guest.
One of the episodes, featuring JNU students Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid, became so popular that it garnered nearly one million views within hours of its release. On 28 January 2020, Kunal was on an IndiGo flight when he was confronted by news anchor Arnab Goswami.
Kamra challenged Goswami to a debate and questioned his reporting on national issues and the suicide of Rohith Vemula. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has decided not to fly IndiGo after the airline banned Kunal Kamra.
